Krishna Camp @ Burning Man 2007

Intro/Background

  • Last year was our first run in building a theme camp at Burning Man. We designed the camp based on the materials we had available from a number of friends/crew members and came up with some pretty creative innovations!

This year we're building on that experience and have come up with an initial design based on the materials we know to be available.

We want everyone's input on this! Post any other ideas you may have on how to lay things out, and what we can build/make/do to make our camp as dynamic and entertaining as possible.

  • Check out the site plans we submitted in our theme camp application this year: Site Plan Pics

Ideas for the camp

  • The main features of the camp are the distribution of prasadam (sanctified vegetarian food), live group kirtans, sacred fire rituals, gifts and body painting, worship of the sacred deities of Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra in Their temple, and Harinam Sankirtan chanting parades throughout Black Rock City, in addition to booked performances on various stages in other camps with the Temple Bhajan Band.
  • The idea behind all these activities is that we want to allow everyone who comes in contact with our camp to feel appreciated, cared for, and spiritually inspired by the association of like-minded souls. By participating in the culture of God Conscious living through eating sacred food, offering prayers for the benefit of the world at ancient fire rituals, meditating on and experiencing the joy of kirtan, giving and receiving gifts, making friends, and chilling out with the Lord of the Universe we hope to give something tangible people can take back into their own lives.
  • Unlimited funding is available through the Lords grace, but as of now money is somewhat of an issue, so think creatively about what you already have in your possesion or could possibly get to use for the event. Keep in mind transportation possibilities for large equipment etc.

PLEASE ADD YOUR OWN CONTRIBUTIONS/PARTICIPATION PLANS/IDEAS!!

Rasikananda:My dad Akhilananda just built a Ratha Yatra chariot for the Cleveland festival. We can build a similar one for Burning Man or use his if we can transport it from Ohio out to Nevada (not very cost effective perhaps) Check out these photos! http://picasaweb.google.com/akhilananda/
